The screen has some kind of auto dimming that can't be turned off with any of the settings. The screen turns about 35% darker suddenly after about 5 seconds of any dark scene. It's really annoying as it's an abrupt switch and the change back to bright is also very obvious and occurs after a slight delay. I have this TV in my bedroom and usually watch in the dark where it's even more noticable and annoying.

Search google and you will find many examples of people complaining about this. There is no easy setting to disable this feature.

When you watch sports or other constantly bright things, it's a nice picture and you won't see this problem. But if you watch mostly movies it might drive you crazy.

I am very sorry I bought this tv.

It is a very good TV but notice that it is NTSC only ...
To whom buy outside USA, be careful, u should buy multi system or buy a converter from NTSC to PAL

Awfuul TV. No Tint calibration. Colors are too bright but pale colors are too bland. Also, faces are often blurry. I went through the display settings but the color settings did not improve. And the sharpness setting did not change the blurry quality of the picture.
And if you use a satellite connection, the TV identification of the programs/channels does not work. Only your satellite remote control will assist you in identifying what program and channel you are watching.
A grand disappointment after reading the glowing reviews for this TV on Amazon. Returning it tomorrow. DO NOT BUY THIS TV. Caveat emptor.

This is a very pretty TV, very easy to set up, lightweight, but sturdy.
Has a good picture. Just hope it lasts longer than the 18 mo old Samsung that died on me. Would have cost $350 to fix.
I was told that Sony is a very good brand. We'll see.

I bought my first HDTV last August. Actually it was a birthday present even though I paided half. Then my father bought a bigger HDTV for a HD converter box from CABLEVISION. Well I bought this HDTV from AMAZON for my mother in the upstairs living room for my satellite tv not just to expierence HD but to expierence real digital tv. Well I just bought a smaller HDTV for my father in the garage for father's day ( I had to order another HD converter box from CABLEVISION. I now made my family HD crazy! But my family is so serious about television I decided it would be smart to make all our tv service with as much HD as possible and be 100% digital. I actually have both cable and satellite (DISH NETWORK) because I wanted it both ways (now that's being serious). I now wonder how many U.S. households have four HDTVs? I am a very happy one of them.
