A Flat Panel TV uses LCD Technology or Plasma Technology. Back when the frenzy first started, There were major pros and cons for buying either. However, currently, it is simply a matter of preference. Many will say that Plasmas produce richer Blacks. I own both, and see no discernable difference. The biggest noticable diffrence currently is the weight. Plasmas are VERY heavy.

Projection TVs are just that. A small projector inside of the television project the image onto the display INTERNALLY. Because a certain amount of distance is required for this projection, these tvs are nowhere nearly as thin as LCDs or Plasmas, and can not be wall mounted. They also do not have wide viewing angles. When you look at a projection outside of the recommended viewing angle, the picture seems dark or duller, and the colors are not nearly as bright. Most newer LCDs and Plasmas have a nearly 180 degree viewing angle (Half Circle) so that from any angle on the display side of the TV the picture is visible, and clear, and crisp.

I recommend LCD as they are lighter, and also unlike plasma, they do not suffer from glare when in a brightly lit room. Just ensure you future proof yourself and get a 1080p (progressive). This is currently the highest resolution available. If you have a little more cash to blow, look for a television with a 120hz refresh rate. These tend to display fast action images such as sports or action movies better, and does not leave little trails behind ( in general you rarely notice them on a quality set, regardless of your refresh rate).

I ordered the LN46B650 from Amazon.com. Delivery was impeccable and exactly on time June 8th, 2009. Delivery guys came and unpacked the TV. Hooked it into my cable box and a horrible picture came up. Every image and text in every channel had three or four shadow lines. Various attempts to improve the picture were futile. The delivery guys themselves were surprised. They asked me: Do you want us to take it back? Without hesitation I said yes. I suspect the TV was a lemon. Statistically it happens. I am not sure about Samsung's quality control but they lost me as a customer. I am now looking at SONY or Panasonic Plasma

I ordered this TV on April 28th and due to work schedule, had selected a scheduled delivery for May 5th between 4pm and 8pm. I waited all four hours at home and no delivery. I called the shipper for Amazon, CEVA Logistics and the guy I talked to did not have an answer why my TV was not delivered. He told me I would get a call tomorrow. CEVA did call me the next morning as promised and delivery was set for 1pm-2pm. I found out from CEVA that they didn't have a valid phone number for me. When I asked what number they had, she gave me my home number (without area code) followed by three zeros. Turns out there was some error entering my phone number without area code into computer and it read the phone number as invalid. The person from CEVA said my TV had been there for a couple days but couldn't call to confirm the scheduled delivery time. I guess my point is, if you have a scheduled delivery with a shipper and they don't call at least by the day before the delivery day, you may want to call them to confirm they are coming. It will save four hours of frustration and wasted time.

The TV did get delivered the next day as promised. The packaging was in great shape and the TV itself had no damage. So far the HD picture is excellent on this TV and it looks great in the room. Recommended!!

July 18th I'm still awaiting delivery of my TV. It wont be delivered until July 21 ( a working day! ). Posted email tracking notified that I was made aware of delivery on july 7th, actually it wasn't until next week a call was made by me and I was told that the product was not in the shippers possession ! Any way long story short very misleading shipping service. Hoping to receive my TV intact?

This product was shipped very quickly (CA to NC) in a matter of 3-4 days. The setup was user friendly and appears to be working great.

I wanted to share my experience buying this TV b/c its incredibly bad. I initially bought this tv using a amazon store card but it has limits and it does not give you the option to buy the rest of the TV cost using another method. I got an email from amazon then stating that you should use a gift card to purchase the rest of the cost. So I did. So far so good. Then I kept getting emails from Amazon saying that I have been denied the purchase...i kept calling amazon and the Store card people...note these are two separate companies!! and so they dont COMMUNICATE and one says that the other is wrong!! But wait!!..there is more. I finally got a level headed person from amazon and they made a conference call with the store card people and all of us could talk together...and get this the amazon person and store card person were fighting!!! with EACH OTHER!!! and you know what happens when two women fight...geezus man, i just wanted my TV!! after at least 12 hours (all hours combined) and headaches...i am finally getting my tv shipped today...for next week!! which sucks b/c i wanted to give it to my wife for mothers day...anyway amazon is a great company and all( i dont want a crappy tv delivered since I havent got it yet!) and so this rating is for the STORE CARD people...amazon was nice enough to give me some freebies for the hassle...i sure hope this tv is worth it...

UPDATE ON TV: 46LNB650

So there are some real losers replying to the post and they just dont get it....anyway here is my update.

TV arrived fine no problems. But the guy who came to deliver it from amazon did not know anything...he was a nice guy though and he helped move the TV and at least plug it in. He did not know how to calibrate the picture or anything like that which is fine..didnt expect him to.
I turned the TV on attached a DVD player and it looked like HOME VIDEO!!
I hope I didnt pay 1700 for this! So I searched on the internet to look for calibration settings and I even tried to calibrate according to another amazon post but to no avail...it looks like home video... so if anyone who is knowledgable ( not like some of these guys who already posted) can help, would be much appreciated otherwise this TV goes back soon!!
By the way, some of those posting on this website, you obviously lack any class...instead of helping others, your posts only try to put down people and are not helpful...maybe hired by amazon or something...who knows...in any case, please done post your negative comments unless they are trying to help people understand the TV and the experience you had buying it...And my 1 star ratings is consistent...I am dissappointed with the TV. I do like some features but overall this is just not what I expected and I am entitled to my opinion.

I have just purchased this TV from Best Buy as it was on sale a good amount. Brought it home and it rocks! The quality of the picture is just amazing when it is hooked up to my DVD player. I might have to give in and get a blue-ray to see how that looks! Input cables are in a good place so I can keep my TV against the wall. Wish the sound was a little better, but then again I have a surround sound for when I want the premium sound anyways.

I had this Toshiba for a week but had to return it. It was a good tv. The sound was very good when attached with an HDMI cable. Picture was good and what you'd expect for a 720p unit. Personally I like Toshiba tvs.

However, mine had a high pitch (feedback-like) sound coming from the unit. After a week I couldn't take it anymore. I purchased mine at Be$tbuy locally and they were out. Still looking for another tv.

If you get one for a good price, (and it works) I'd say it is as good as other brands.
